Wedding day

Hindu ceremony

The pandit, the fire and the pheras under the mandap.

What happens

The ceremony under the mandap. The rituals vary by region and community (the kanyadaan, the hasta melap, the saat phere or saptapadi around the fire, the mangalsutra and the sindoor), but the pandit, the sacred fire and the circling are common to most. Two to three hours, usually in the daytime.

Vendors: the pandit (your family's, or one who performs in your language), the mandap and the ceremony decor, a shehnai player or live musicians, a photographer and videographer, and a planner to run the morning.
