The photos are the part of the wedding you keep. Everything else — the flowers, the food, the dance floor — is gone by Monday.
The thing that separates a good South Asian wedding photographer from a good photographer is knowing what is about to happen. Someone who has never shot an anand karaj does not know the laavan are the moment, and they will be changing lenses when it starts.
Quotes are usually built per event or per day. A mehndi, a sangeet, the wedding day and a reception is four separate coverage blocks, and the wedding day itself often runs from morning prep to a late reception.
Get the hours written down for each event. "Full day" means different things to different studios, and running over is where surprise invoices come from.
Photo and video are separate crafts. Some studios do both well with one team; others quietly subcontract the video and you never meet that person until the morning of.
Ask who is shooting, ask to see a full wedding from that specific person rather than a highlights reel, and ask whether the photo and video teams have worked together. Two crews who have not can spend the day getting in each other's shots.
On the wedding day, things happen simultaneously. The baraat is arriving outside while the bride is getting ready inside. One person cannot cover both, and you will only find out which one you missed when the gallery arrives.
For any wedding with a baraat, a second shooter is close to essential rather than an upsell.
A wedding content creator shoots vertical video on a phone and hands you edited clips the same day or the next morning. That is not what your videographer does — their footage takes weeks or months and is built for a film, not for a story post.
If you want same-day social content, book it as its own line item. Asking your videographer to also do it usually gets you neither done well.
Photo galleries commonly take a couple of months. Films take longer. Albums longer still. That is normal and not a red flag — but it should be in the contract, with a number.
Also ask how many edited images you receive, whether you get raw files (usually no, and that is standard), and who owns the right to post them.
This has the widest spread of any category at a wedding, because “photography” covers a solo shooter at one event and a full team across four days. Photo and video are priced separately below, since most studios quote them that way even when they sell both.
What moves it: number of events, number of shooters, whether video is included, and how much post-production you are buying. Two quotes that look far apart are often covering completely different amounts of work — compare the deliverables, not the totals.

Many studios sell photo and video together for less than booking the two separately.

One team usually costs less than two separate bookings and avoids two crews competing for the same angle. The trade-off is that a studio strong in photography is not always equally strong in film — review a full gallery and a full wedding film before deciding.
Ask for a number rather than a feeling, because it varies enormously. Get the count of edited images, the delivery format, and how long you have to download them written into the contract — galleries expire, and people discover that years later.
Yes, essentially always — a second day is a second booking with its own crew and edit time. Multi-day coverage is priced as a package rather than a day rate, so ask for the multi-day figure rather than multiplying a single day.
