The reception stage is where the couple sits for hours and where every posed photograph of the evening is taken. It is also, more than the mandap, what the room looks like in the pictures your guests post.
Most stage decor problems are lighting problems, not design problems.
How big should a wedding stage be?
Big enough for the couple's seating plus the stream of family joining them for photographs — which at a South Asian reception can be a dozen people at once. A stage sized for two looks generous until the queue starts.
Confirm the ceiling height and the room's sightlines. A tall backdrop in a low room reads as cramped, and a low one in a large hall disappears.
How should the stage be lit?
This is the question that decides whether the photographs work. A beautiful backdrop lit only by the DJ's colour wash photographs as a purple smear, and skin tones go with it.
Ask for dedicated, neutral front light on the couple, separate from the dance-floor lighting. Your photographer will have strong views and should be asked before the design is finalised, not after.
Can the stage be reused across events?
Sometimes, with a re-dress: the structure stays and the florals, fabric and lighting change. That is much cheaper than two builds, and it is worth asking whether your sangeet and reception can share a frame.
It depends on both events being in the same room or the same venue, and on the turnaround time the venue allows.
What drives the price
Stage decor is quoted within the decor package more often than alone, and those published ranges are the better reference point.
What sets it here: size, whether the structure is stock or fabricated, fresh versus faux floral, lighting design, and the install and strike labour the venue's access window forces.

Should the stage match the mandap?
They usually share a palette rather than a design. The mandap is a ceremonial structure and the reception stage is a set — using the same decorator for both is what keeps them coherent without making them identical.
How early does a stage need to be installed?
Most builds need three to six hours plus floral, which means the crew needs venue access well before guests arrive. If your ceremony and reception share a room, ask the venue what turnaround it permits — that single answer decides what is buildable.
Can you keep the stage decor after the wedding?
The florals sometimes; the structure almost never, because it is rental inventory going to another wedding the next day. If you want to keep arrangements, arrange collection in advance — otherwise they leave with the strike crew.
