Booking a wedding videographer
Photos freeze the day. Video keeps the speeches, the dhol, your grandmother's voice, and the exact sound of the room when the vidaai started.
It is also the booking with the widest gap between what vendors mean by the same word. "Videography" can be one person with a camera at the back, or three shooters, a drone, and an edit that takes four months.
What videography deliverables do you need?
There are usually four possible deliverables: a teaser of a minute or so, a highlight film of five to ten minutes, a long documentary edit of the full ceremony, and the raw footage. Most couples watch the highlight film often, the documentary edit once, and the raw footage never — but the ceremony edit is the one parents ask for.
Work out which of those you want before comparing quotes, because a package that looks cheap is often cheap by leaving two of them out.
What is a same-day edit, and is it worth it?
A same-day edit is a short film shot in the morning, cut during the afternoon and screened at the reception that night. It lands extremely well and it is the most labour-intensive thing on the price list — it means an editor sitting in a back room at your wedding instead of a second camera on the floor.
Worth it if you want the room to react. Not worth it if what you actually want is better coverage, because the same money buys another shooter.
What does wedding videography cost?
Many studios sell photo and video together for less than booking two vendors, and it avoids two teams competing for the same angle. The trade-off is that a studio strong at one is not always equally strong at the other — review a full gallery and a full film before deciding.

How is audio recorded at a wedding?
This is the question nobody asks and the one that ruins wedding films. Ask how they record audio during the ceremony and the speeches — lapel mics on the officiant and the couple, a feed from the DJ's board, or a camera microphone at the back of a 300-person hall.
The last of those produces a film of your vows that you cannot hear. Ask to hear a speech in one of their real films, not a music-only highlight reel.
