Day-of coordination is the highest-value booking in this category and the one couples skip. Somebody has to run the timeline, chase the vendors and handle the thing that goes wrong — and if you do not hire that person, it will be your mother, your cousin, or you.
For a multi-day wedding, this is not a nice-to-have.
Day-of or month-of coordination — which do you need?
"Day-of" is slightly misleading — a good coordinator takes over two to four weeks out, confirms every vendor, builds the running order and then runs it. Month-of formalises that longer runway and adds the final-month logistics.
For a single ceremony and reception, day-of is usually enough. For three or more events across multiple days and venues, month-of is the one worth paying for, because the coordination work is real long before the day.
What does a coordinator need from you?
Give them every vendor contract, arrival and load-in time, contact number, and the running order for each event. The value of a coordinator is that on the day, nobody phones you — they phone them.
Tell them the family politics too, honestly. Who needs to be in the family photographs, who should not be seated together, which uncle will try to change the schedule. That is not gossip, it is the job.
What does day-of coordination cost?
Against a wedding costing tens of thousands, this is one of the smallest lines on the list and it protects every other line on it.
Ask how many events the fee covers, how many hours on each day, how many staff are on site, and what happens if an event runs long — because they will.

Is day-of coordination enough for a multi-day wedding?
Rarely. Day-of assumes one event to run; a mehndi, sangeet, ceremony and reception across three days is four running orders and four sets of vendor call times. Month-of coordination, which adds the final-month build and vendor confirmation, is the realistic minimum.
Can a family member act as coordinator instead?
They can, and they will spend your wedding on the phone instead of at it. The specific thing you are buying is that on the day nobody calls you or your mother — they call someone whose job it is. That is hard for a guest to do.
When should you hire a day-of coordinator?
Three to six months out is normal, though the good ones book earlier for peak dates. Hiring later still works because most of their work happens in the final month — but the shortlist shrinks fast for a summer Saturday.
