Pre-wedding

Chunni ceremony

The groom's family places the chunni on the bride, welcoming her into the family.

What happens

The groom's family presents the bride with a chunni (a dupatta), jewellery and gifts, often on the same day as the roka or the engagement. In many Punjabi families the groom's mother or sister places the chunni on the bride's head, which marks her acceptance into the family.

Vendors: a photographer, decor for the seating area where the ceremony happens, hair and makeup for the bride, and catering if the gathering that follows is large.
