Pre-wedding

Jaggo

The Punjabi night before: the lit copper pot, the dhol and the boliyan. Loud by design.

What happens

The Punjabi night before the wedding: the family carries a decorated copper pot (the jaggo) lit with candles or diyas through the neighbourhood, or around the hall, with dhol, bhangra, boliyan and a stick (the chhaj) banged on doors to wake everyone up. Loud by design, and late.

Vendors: dhol players and a DJ for the hall, catering for the late crowd, decor for the hall (the jaggo pot itself is usually made by the family), and a photographer who can work in low light and keep up.
